This progressive series gives you the foundation you need to feel comfortable, confident, and excited to dance West Coast Swing (WCS).
Whether you are a complete beginner or coming from another dance style, this is the best place to start your West Coast Swing journey! You will learn the rules of the game, fundamental techniques, responsibilities of leading and following, and some basic patterns. Content is progressive content. We recommend that prior to this series of lessons, you take the Intro in West Coast Swing workshop, but that is not a strict requirement. After the Building a solid foundation course, you will graduate to Discovering level!
P.S. An empty registration form indicates that there are no classes you can sign up for at this moment.
This is what your dancing could look like after this course:
Nope! There will be a mix of couples and singles. No partner required, but we do keep an eye on the balance between leaders and followers, therefore registration for a certain role might be on hold untill someone in the oposite roles signs up, so keep an eye on the registration form as spot may become available at a later moment in time.
WCS is a social dance. Switching partners is part of the culture of this dance. Meaning everyone dances with everyone for one song at a time. In class, we constantly switch partners so that you learn to adapt to different partners. After all, every dance partner has their own way of moving and dancing, and therefore also their own way of leading and following. There may always be reasons why you do not want to switch partners (e.g. injury, illness concerns), so it's ok to temporarily stay together if you prefer.
We are super excited that you want to learn to dance West Coast Swing. The essentials level (Building a solid foundation) is still the perfect place for you. West Coast Swing is a unique dance, with its own rules for leading and following. At the Essentials level, we'll teach you which skills you can use directly and which ones you'll need to modify and how, without having to start from scratch.
If you first want to try-out our way of teaching or this style of partnerdance you can join the Intro in West Coast Swing workshop.
Wear something you can move comfortably in. Pants are recommended instead of skirts.
Shoes: Wear flat shoes with smooth soles (leather, without a coarse tread). Choose footwear that is not clunky or grippy/sticky.
Then this is the perfect course for you! Everyone has to start somewhere! You will meet many dancers who feel the same way as you do.

It depends .... If you have recently participated in the Intro in West Coast Swing workshop, in some cases you can join starting in the 2nd of 3rd class of Building a Foundation. We assess on an individual level, based on your skills, whether this is a possibility in your case.
